Peekapoo

The Peekapoo is a designer dog that crosses a Pekingese and a small Poodle. They have been around a long time, dating back to the 1950s. With all crossbreeds, you can never really be sure which traits each breed will have, and there are always many inconsistencies.

What to expect from your Peekapoo

Peekapoos are intelligent and sweet lapdogs and have even been used as therapy dogs. You may have found your perfect breed if you are looking for a great family companion or addition to your household.

Peekapoos require less exercise than other breeds and would make a great flat/apartment dog. They will still enjoy a good daily walk, especially if they have no garden to run around. They are playful dogs, so they adapt well to apartment living as long as they get plenty of playtime.

A bored dog will usually become mischievous, whether nuisance barking, chewing or digging. Try to ensure they are occupied with jobs, playtime or plenty of exercise to keep them out of trouble.

Peekapoos love their families and being with people. They are unsuitable for families with young children as they have their limits to being pulled around. They are playful, so older children and those used to being around dogs will play endless games running around the garden with them. They will always love to snuggle on your lap.

Peekapoos make for great watchdogs. They will alert you to every little thing going on. They can be a little barky, so you must train them to be quiet on command. They are a bit un-trusting of strangers, so you must ensure they are socialised early to combat this.

They are sweet-natured and will usually live peacefully with other dogs, cats and small animals brought up within the same household. They may enjoy chasing the neighbourhood cats.

Peekapoos are intelligent and relatively easy to train. Still, they are stubborn and independent, so you might want to discover what their motivation reward is early on to make the best progress. They prefer fun and playful training rather than being harsh or forceful.

Peekapoos’ coat is usually soft and has an almost cottony feel. It should be wavy and of medium to long length. There is no undercoat. As with all designer breeds, coats can vary in every litter. There are no real guarantees on the amount of shedding you will have. Regular brushing will always help to combat stray hairs.
