Golden Retriever

The Golden Retriever was originally bred for hunting for retrieving ducks and other fowl. They are used to being very active so, it is important to keep this breed active.

They are one of the most popular dogs in the world. You would find it difficult to find a better family pet. they are loyal, intelligent, sociable and not to mention very beautiful. If you are looking for a great family pet, a running partner or you enjoy an active lifestyle, this could be the perfect breed for you.

Working dogs need lots of exercise and this guy is no different. They need plenty of exercise as well as playtime. They could make the perfect jogging partner, this is not a breed for couch potatoes and you will need to be able to commit to long walks with endless games to keep them happy. This is not really a suitable apartment dog.

They mature slowly and stay very playful until three or four, which can be adorable but also can be seen as annoying – you decide!  A bored dog will usually become a mischievous dog, whether it be nuisance barking, chewing or digging. Try to make sure they are occupied with jobs, playtime or plenty of exercise to keep them out of trouble.

These guys love to eat, you need to keep an eye on their intake and make sure it matches their exercise level, they love a tit-bit or two (maybe three!).

They are great all round dogs, they love being with you and your family. They are gentle with children of all ages. They will run around the garden for hours playing with your older children. They hate being left and are likely to suffer from separation anxiety, so do not get this dog if you work full time.

They love strangers, just friends they haven’t met yet! If you are looking for a good watchdog, you need to keep on looking, this breed will more likely lick them to death.

Goldie is a sweet-natured and will usually live peacefully with other dogs, cats and small animals if brought up within the same household. However they might still enjoy chasing the neighbourhood cats.

They are intelligent and eager to please and train, great for the novice owner . It’s important to discover what their motivation reward is early on, to get the best results. They are sensitive dogs so do not train harshly or forcefully or they will sulk or hide from you, keep training playful and fun for the best result.

They shed heavily, particularly around spring and autumn. You will need to give them a daily or at least a weekly brush to, keep the hairs under control.
