American Pit Bulls are very dependable, loyal, easy-going dogs, although very muscular and powerful. They are very good-natured and excellent around children.
Unfortunately, this breed has been used by people wanting to fight dogs and have a status symbol, so their other qualities often go overlooked.
A well-trained and bred pit bull is loving and gentle with people. Their nature makes them gentle around children and very friendly with people. This makes them a pretty rubbish watchdog, but if necessary, they will defend their family to the death.
They require moderate daily exercise and keep their puppy-like ways well into adulthood.
These dogs have been bred to fight, so caution is advised around other animals and dogs. You may want to muzzle them when in public to settle usually strong opinions surrounding this breed.
They are very intelligent and can be easily trained to learn commands and tricks.
They to shed regularly but moderate, their hair is short, so it does get stuck in clothes etc. Brushing will reduce shedding as well as make the coat softer and cleaner.
Unfortunately this breed has been banned in the UK.
