The cockapoo is one of the very first designer dogs and has been around longer than you would have thought, 1950’s they were first introduced and are now a hugely popular breed as they have great personalities, bags of fun, and great family dogs.

They are incredibly affectionate and will never leave you alone, even if it is to accompany you into the bathroom. They will happily become laptop dogs and make great agility partners, and they really are an excellent choice for a well-rounded cheerful dog.

They love their families and are good with kids. However, they have their limits and probably best to avoid young children with this breed. Older kids, though, will spend hours running around the back garden with them. A bored dog will typically be destructive and barky, so make sure they are happy and entertained.

They are medium-sized dogs so small enough to cuddle on your lap but big enough to romp around the garden. They require a good walk daily and plenty of activities for their playfulness. They could cope well if living in a flat or an apartment.

They pretty much love everybody, including strangers if you are looking for a good watchdog, you had better look past this breed. They aren’t known to be nuisance barkers, so you are again a good choice if you live in a close neighbourhood.

Training is easy with these guys; they have the intelligence of a poodle, so they pick up commands quickly and will want to please you. You will want to identify their motivation reward early on to get the best results. Try to keep training fun and short.

They are said to have hypo-allergenic fur so that allergy sufferers may be OK around them. All dogs shed a little all year round; the Cockapoos are no different but a lot less than other breeds. You will likely still need to take them to the groomers or do it yourself if their hair becomes too long. You will want to brush them weekly.

With all crossbreeds, it can sometimes not work out as expected, and you get the worst traits of both breeds, but Cockapoos have been around a little longer than most, so they seem more reliable.
